MetaMask, the world’s most widely used crypto wallet, is gearing up for a major milestone, a $30 million on-chain rewards program designed to reward its loyal community and set the stage for the long-awaited MetaMask token.

Announced over the weekend on X, the initiative will distribute over $30 million worth of Linea tokens during its first season. MetaMask described the effort as “one of the largest on-chain rewards programs ever built,” signaling a strategic shift from being just a crypto wallet to a full-fledged, user-centric Web3 platform.

Unlike typical airdrops or farming events, the company emphasized that the new program isn’t about speculation but about rewarding genuine engagement. Users who actively interact with decentralized applications (dApps), swap tokens, and participate in the Web3 ecosystem through MetaMask will be eligible for a range of benefits, including referral bonuses, mUSD incentives, early token access, and exclusive partner perks.

Rewarding Real Activity and Long-Term Loyalty

MetaMask’s rewards structure aims to celebrate the community that helped it dominate the DeFi space. Long-term users, those who have used MetaMask since its early days, will qualify for higher-tier rewards and special privileges, reinforcing the company’s “give back” philosophy.

In a post outlining the program, MetaMask highlighted its vision to foster trust, loyalty, and deeper exploration of Web3. By incentivizing authentic blockchain activity rather than quick-profit schemes, the firm hopes to create sustainable engagement that benefits the broader ecosystem.

Joe Lubin: “The First Step of a Much Larger Evolution”

Consensys founder and CEO Joe Lubin called the new program the beginning of a much larger transformation for MetaMask. “We’re building the future of personal finance,” he said, describing the rewards initiative as the first step in empowering users through incentives aligned with their behavior.

Lubin confirmed that the rewards rollout is directly linked to the upcoming MetaMask token, which he first teased publicly in September. The token, he explained, will be an integral part of Consensys’ expanding blockchain ecosystem, closely tied to LINEA, the company’s Ethereum layer-2 network focused on scalability and cost efficiency.

He added that the token will “empower the community and honor the OGs who’ve been with us from the start.” Early access to this token will be among the rewards for Season 1 participants.

Expanding Beyond Ethereum

Alongside the rewards announcement, MetaMask revealed significant platform upgrades across its browser extension and mobile apps, with improved performance, UI enhancements, and expanded blockchain support.

Notably, MetaMask now allows users to manage assets beyond Ethereum, including Bitcoin and other major networks, further positioning itself as a multi-chain gateway for the decentralized web.

Lubin teased a series of upcoming developments over the next few months, suggesting that this is only the beginning of MetaMask’s next chapter. As “Uptober” kicks off, the wallet’s loyal users might soon find that their continued engagement isn’t just useful — it’s finally being rewarded.
