McDonald’s Singapore has announced the upcoming release of 2000 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) called Grimace Digital Collectibles. These digital collectibles are a collaboration between McDonald’s, metaverse service provider Bandwagon Labs, and NFT artist The Hidden Walls. The Grimace Digital Collectibles allow users to own virtual representations of Grimace, a long-standing character in the McDonald’s franchise. The collection will be available for free, but users need to have a Digital Collectibles wallet, which can be obtained through the MetaMask app and Web3Auth. Each wallet can only mint one NFT, which cannot be sold or transferred.
The 2000 digital tokens are designed to be unique representations of Grimace’s traits and essence. McDonald’s Senior Director, Drina Chee, expressed that Grimace holds a special place in the hearts of many fans, and this initiative allows the character to evolve and be loved by all generations.
This move by McDonald’s Singapore is part of the company’s strategic presence in the digital space. They previously launched McNuggets Land on The Sandbox metaverse platform and have expressed interest in expanding into the “virtual food and beverage sector” by opening shops in the Metaverse. The release of the Grimace Digital Collectibles adds to a growing trend of corporate NFT launches, joining recent releases by Coca-Cola and Reddit.
