A fictional collaboration between Drake and The Weeknd, created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), has gone viral and is now being considered for Grammy Awards. The song called “Heart on My Sleeve” was released on TikTok by a pseudonymous user known as Ghostwriter, who utilized AI technology to mimic the vocal styles of the popular artists.
Despite legal threats leading to its removal from streaming platforms, Ghostwriter has submitted the song for two Grammy categories: Best Rap Song and Song of the Year. The artist is technically eligible for the awards, as they wrote the lyrics. The Recording Academy, responsible for the Grammys, has decided to allow songs created with AI tools to be eligible for consideration.
However, AI-generated material will not receive awards. Ghostwriter has persistently continued their AI-assisted music creations and recently released another track called “Whiplash,” this time imagining a collaboration between Travis Scott and 21 Savage. The artist hopes that their music will push the industry to adapt to AI rather than fight against it.
