Blackpink, the popular South Korean pop group, is launching a dedicated fan experience called “Blackpink: The Palace” in the virtual game platform Roblox. This marks their entry into the metaverse space and provides an interactive hub for K-pop fans to celebrate the band’s music and participate in activities such as recreating their choreography.
In the virtual world, fans can take photos with avatars of Blackpink’s members and purchase custom outfits and emotes for their own avatars. The experience will be regularly updated with challenges that offer in-game currency rewards.
Developed by British studio Karta, the Blackpink-themed Roblox world is set to launch on August 25. Fans who visit the game within the first 24 hours will receive a special badge for their Roblox profile. This move follows Roblox’s previous hosting of in-game concerts by K-pop acts like NCT 127 and collaborations with other K-pop stars.
The increasing presence of K-pop in the metaverse aligns with the South Korean government’s investment in metaverse development. K-pop artists have utilized virtual counterparts and online concerts to reach global audiences during the pandemic. Blackpink’s expansion into the metaverse through Roblox is another step in their digital engagement strategy, offering fans a new way to connect and experience their music beyond traditional boundaries.
