Adidas Originals and BAPE have joined forces to release an ultra-limited sneaker collaboration called the Triple-White Forum 84 BAPE Low. Only 100 pairs of these sneakers will be auctioned off, and each pair will come with a unique “digital twin” NFT version that can potentially be worn in the metaverse.
The auction will take place through NFT passes on the Adidas Collect platform, marking the first time Adidas has used an auction format for an NFT-driven release. Participants can bid on the Ethereum NFTs, with each winning bid redeemable for one pair of the corresponding sneakers.
The Triple-White Forum 84 BAPE Low sneakers feature BAPE’s iconic shooting star motif and the embossed “A Bathing Ape” logo in metallic silver foil. Unlike previous camo versions, this collaboration showcases a white colorway, coupled with a storyline centered around a pristine laundrette in a mysterious desert.
Equipped with NFC chips in the left tongue, each pair of sneakers comes with an NFT-based certificate of authenticity that can be accessed by scanning the chip with a smartphone.
Upon redeeming the NFT pass for the physical shoes, owners will also receive a “digital twin” Ethereum NFT that can be used in Adidas’ ALTS avatar project, allowing owners to wear their sneakers in the metaverse. Adidas has hinted that token holders may soon be able to exchange their existing tokens for functional avatars.
