FTX Sam Bankman Fried pleaded not guilty

Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, pleaded not guilty to seven fraud and conspiracy charges in a Manhattan federal court on Tuesday. These charges were brought against him after prosecutors alleged that he had used over $100 million in stolen customer funds for the benefit of electoral candidates and politicians. His bail was revoked due to allegations that he had attempted to influence witnesses and interfere with a fair trial through public harassment.

Bankman-Fried, who has been held in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his bail was revoked, was recently denied a vegan diet despite his request. He has been permitted to meet with his attorneys during weekdays.

The disgraced founder of FTX, along with his former co-CEO Ryan Salame and former director of engineering Nishad Singh, made significant political donations in 2022. Bankman-Fried personally donated more than $40 million, while Salame contributed nearly $23 million to Republican campaigns and related political action committees (PACs). Singh donated $8 million during the 2022 midterm election cycle.
