The future of Sam Bankman-Fried, ex-CEO of FTX, now rests in the hands of twelve jurors chosen to preside over his fraud trial.
A group of 45 candidates was narrowed down to just 12 jurors. This was after they shared details surrounding their background, occupation, education, and personal life.
Among the selected are a pregnant physician’s assistant, a train conductor, and a retired investment banker. The jury selection occurred on the second day of the trial in Manhattan.
One prospective juror was excused for disclosing her employment at a firm that invested in FTX and Alameda Research. The final jury, revealed by District Court Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, consists predominantly of women, with nine females and three males.
The jurors hail from diverse professions, including health, finance, legal, IT, and education. Their ages range from early 30s to late 60s, and five of them are university-educated.
Following the jury selection, both prosecutors and defense presented their opening statements. The trial, expected to last six weeks, will examine Bankman-Fried’s role in the unexpected collapse of FTX and his seven fraud-related charges.
