The dog who inspired the creation of Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) is set to be commemorated with a statue in Japan.

The statue of Kabuso, the canine behind the famous ‘doge’ meme, is being installed by an NFT community that owns the original meme. Working with local governments, the statue will be unveiled on November 2nd, Kabuso’s birthday, in Sakura, Japan.

It is set to be located in Sakura Furusato Square, a favorite walking spot for Kabuso and her owner. The initiative to build the statue was funded by Kabuso’s fans last year, with aspirations of eventually placing a similar monument on the moon.

According to tridog of PleasrDAO, the community that owns the NFT, “Our goal is to become THE Doge gathering place online for all of the Doge and meme community.” PleasrDAO is known for buying high-priced NFTs and building communities around them. One such community, Own The Doge, is listed as a top donor to the Save The Children charity.

The doge meme and subsequent cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin were born from a picture of Kabuso taken by Sato in 2010, which gained popularity after being shared on Reddit. Since then, the doge meme has become part of internet culture and has inspired a series of dog-themed tokens.
