Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has dispelled recent speculations by stating he hasn’t sold any Ethereum (ETH) since 2018. His statement follows recent rumors that he had been offloading millions of dollars worth of the digital asset.
Buterin clarified that the recent transfers observed were associated with donations and charity projects, not personal gains.
Buterin, a respected figure in the digital asset industry, had been under scrutiny as reports circulated about him moving nearly $15 million worth of Ethereum. His activities in the market have significant implications for investors, given Ethereum’s prominence in the industry.
In a Warpcast discussion about the transfers, Buterin stated, “It’s not actually me selling; it’s almost always me donating to some charity, nonprofit, or other project, and the recipient selling because, well, they have to cover expenses.”
TrustNodes confirmed Buterin’s statement, revealing that the $15 million sold was indeed from Vitalik’s address and was given to Kanro, a biotechnology charity he founded.
Buterin, whose crypto holdings are currently estimated at $50 million, hoped that his clarification would alleviate the concerns of many investors. His recent transfers had stirred the Ethereum market when they were made public.
